Heinz Salad Cream with Cucumber and Dill
Last year, I was asked to review Heinz Salad Cream’s first flavoured variety, Lemon and Black Pepper. I loved it and it has been added to our shopping list on a number of occassions since. It honestly comes as no surprise to me that demand for the product was so high it is no longer sold as a limited edition flavour, but as a permanent product. So when I was contacted again a couple of weeks ago to review Heinz Salad Cream with Cucumber and Dill I was eager to give it a try.
A bottle arrived through my letter box just before lunch so I tried it first in a ham and salad sandwich. It transformed the sandwich! Dill has a very distinct and strong flavour which in this case became the predominant taste of the sandwich. It was good, but I decided would not suit me every day. I add the lemon and black pepper flavour to almost anything and it adds a subtle zing which accompanies the food. The new flavour, on the other hand, took control of the sandwich and the dill overpowered the ham and salad leaves.
I liked it enough though to add a good dollop of it to my sausages the next day and it worked superbly. It is also nice mixed with some tuna in a sandwich but comes into its own with burgers. I’m looking forward to trying it with a steak. It will be the perfect barbeque accompaniement this summer. It needs to accompany a strong meat or fish, otherwise it will overpower the flavour of your food, but when you get it right it is delicious.
